Is MSI a Good Insurance Company?
Strictly speaking, MSI is not an insurance company. Honest considerations. Because MSI is an MGA, the financial strength behind your policy belongs to the insurer that issues it, and that varies by program. MSI’s own size is not the measure that matters. The E&S homeowners program is surplus lines coverage, which carries fewer regulatory protections. In Texas, for example, surplus lines insurers are not members of the state guaranty association. MSI also notes that some age restrictions may apply to its homeowners programs.
How to evaluate it for your home. Find the issuing insurer on the quote and look up that company’s financial strength rating. Confirm whether the policy is admitted or surplus lines. Then compare roof settlement (replacement cost or actual cash value), the wind and hail deductible, and coverage limits against your other options.
